Bringing Specialized Medicine to Rural Nepal
*Of the 25 million people living in rural Nepal: a mere 1/5 use improved sanitation; almost 1/2 suffer from constant malnutrition; 1/2 are without access to medicine.
*Poor hygiene and sanitation cause frequent diarrhea and infestations, conditions that can be fatal if left untreated.
*Due to these problems and the geographic isolation of Nepalese villages, the life expectancy in Nepal is an average of 16 years lower than in America.
OUR APPROACH
Through the collective action of volunteers, Nepalese specialized physicians, nurses and assistants, The Dorjhana Foundation provides comprehensive medical care to individuals living in impoverished, isolated, and under-served communities. People in these rural communities are too poor to leave their villages to seek treatment; our staff treks into extremely remote areas to provide comprehensive medical services including medical exams, vitamins and pharmaceuticals, advanced diagnostic investigations, and health education programs.
